Gleb Dubrovin is a successful writer, author of cheap but popular novels. He earns well, which allows him to take out a loan to buy a large house. And he finds himself in a difficult financial situation, since at this moment his income begins to shallow. Unexpectedly, he receives a lucrative commission - to write a book about the Danish philosopher Kierkegaard. In his youth, Gleb Dubrovin studied to be a philosopher and wrote a work about him. But he lost interest in him a long time ago and remembers almost nothing. But since he urgently needs money, he takes the order. And he offers to help in writing the book to the novice writer Vitaly Molev, who also claimed to conclude an agreement. Molev is broke and therefore agrees to become a literary negro. So he ends up in the Dubrovins' house for several months and gets to know the family. This novel is an attempt to understand how relevant the philosophy of an extraordinary Dane is in the modern world.
