Marko Vovchok is a Ukrainian writer and translator.
Her works had an anti-serf orientation and described the historical past of Ukraine. In the 1860s, she gained considerable literary fame in Ukraine after the publication in 1857 of the collection "Folk Tales".
Enriched Ukrainian literature with a number of new genres, in particular the socio-feminist novel ("Institute"). The story "Marusya" in the French translation-adaptation became popular in Western Europe at the end of the 19th century.
