Multi-Photon Quantum Interference covers the phenomena of quantum interference through the multi-photon effects of photon correlation. The author’s focus is on the temporal correlation among photons and how it influences the interference effect.

Included is discussion of some of the well known multi-photon interference schemes, such as Hong-Ou-Mandel interferometer and Franson Interferometer for two-photon system, quantum state teleportation and swapping for four-photon system, and quantum state reconstruction for multi-photon system. A unique feature of the book is its quantitative characterization of photon indistinguishability and its connection to interference effects.

Two-Photon Interference.- Historical Background and General Remarks.- Quantum State from Parametric Down-Conversion.- Hong-Ou-Mandel Interferometer.- Phase-Independent Two-Photon Interference.- Phase-Dependent Two-Photon Interference: Two-Photon Interferometry.- Interference between a Two-Photon State and~a Coherent State.- Quantum Interference of More Than Two Photons.- Coherence and Multiple Pair Production in~Parametric Down-Conversion.- Quantum Interference with Two Pairs of~Down-Converted Photons.- Temporal Distinguishability of a Multi-Photon State.- Homodyne of a Single-Photon State: A Special Multi-Photon Interference.

Dr. Z. Y. Jeff Ou obtained his B.S. degree from Beijing University in 1984 and his Ph.D. degree from University of Rochester in 1990. He is now a professor at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. His research interests are in the fields of nonlinear optics and quantum optics with application in quantum information.

No book available on this topic for graduate students who first come into the field Presents a systematic treatment of the multi-photon interference phenomena and their applications in quantum information sciences Deals with a systematic treatment of parametric down conversion and presents complete coverage of various multi-photon interference effects The model used is closely related to actual experiments
